I remember in the 70's and early 80's buying direct cut discs from Linn and Naim and they were certainly not cheap. The sound quallity for the time was very good but the music was always obscure jazz sols guitar and others. The musical quality I have to say was mediocre and you new the musicians were playing it safe because studio time was expensive and a mistake meant you had to start that session all over again. I am so glad you are having a more positive appreciation of them.

I ordered 3 of the APO Direct To Disc LPs, recorded in the Blue Heaven Studios’ converted church in Kansas. I was expecting a lot, and my expectations were exceeded! The music is superb and the technical matters from recording to pressing were done exceedingly well. Super quiet and detailed records. Recommended!

If you ever get a chance, you need to attend Chad’s Blues Masters At The Crossroads event he does every fall. FANTASTIC time and LOTS and LOTS of great music. http://www.blueheavenstudios.com/index.cfm |
@marktomaras Yes, I’ve been several times. Tickets are limited and yes, it takes place in the church, which btw, has SUPERB acoustics. I’ve even hung out after the show and talked to the musicians. It’s really a laid back, low key environment. Some of the best concerts I’ve ever been to, and I’ve seen just about everyone, (some many times). I guarantee you’ll be talking about it for a long time. You also get a tour of Acoustic Sounds and I think Chad is even including his QRP on the tour now. |
