I use RCA black plates from 50s in driver position, very balanced and full sound. But I also use Mullards 12AX7 long plates in preamp. Excellent match, anyway, but it won't give the best high frequency extension.
12au7 in my integrated are phase splitters. My fav is Amperex 7316 long plate. But I just bought a pair NOS Telefunkins...I am liking right now...probably gonna go back and forth for a while. Basicly a cheaper version of the famed G73-R
