There's been a drastic change since thread was started in 2010. A new tube by Psvane is about to take over the 845 world without mercy like Genghis Khan and his Mongols did.
This new tube is the WE845! It's voiced to sound like the Western Electric 284A but it's built to the specs of the RCA 845 so that it can be dropped in as a direct replacement for any 845 tube in any amp that uses regular 845 tubes.
I've been using a quad of these in my Mastersound Reference 845 for about 1.5 months now and I'm just about to start my critical listening, with a review to follow very soon. I don't want to say much as I've only listened for fun up to now as the WE845 tubes "break-in".
However "if" you can read between the lines, read this: In my Mastersound I've used regular Sino 845, 845B and even a quad of RCA 845 for a week before selling them. But this past 1.5 months is the most fun I've ever had listening to my Mastersound in the 11 years I've owned this amp!
But as I said before, I've only listened for "fun" non-critically as the tubes break-in. I haven't listened critically yet...
