Can i leave my HK 3480 preout not connected?

Hi i have a mixer connected to a harman kardon 3480, can i connect the mixer to the harman kardon main in and leave the preout not connected? The reason is that with this method i get better volume and the treble and bass eq. Does not affect the sound that is going to the digi desing reference monitors.
