Hi - I want to have a CAT 6 line installed in my New York City apartment. 1) Is Cat 6a the cable I should use? 2) Can anyone recommend an electrician (some one who may be into audio/video)?
You might look for a contractor specializing in low-voltage wiring. They can be considerably less expensive than electricians.
At least here in Portland, electricians don’t always have much experience with signal wiring. When my room was wired by an electrician, I had to re-do one of the network terminations myself. It was badly crimped. All the AC power work was first rate.
You can see if some local home theater shops will do it. I found a home theater store near me who does this service, and Magnolia within Best Buy told me they would do this as well.
