Preamp Deal of the Century

If anyone is looking for a true "World Class" preamp at a very fair price..heed my advice. I just recieved a Supratek Syrah preamp that was hand built by Mick Maloney in Western Australia, and it is absolutely beautiful! This preamp is the best deal you will ever find. I would put it up against any preamp out there for both looks and sound. Price? $2500 for the Syrah (includes Killer Phono stage). Not into phono? Try the Chardonney line stage for $2100. Don't get me wrong, I am not associated with this company. I am just a very happy owner! This preamp is VERY dynamic, yet liquid. It conveys the sound of music better than any other preamp that I have ever heard! You can check out the Supratek website at www. cantech.net.au

OK - on a different tack - as / my post of 04-15-07.
Having read about a couple of early Syrahs being changed from 6SN7s driving the linestage to a noval fitting 6n1ps tubes and parafeed(ala John Tucker mods)? Similar dual triodes with double the heater current , I think to the the 2x 6H3n-E that came in my pre, does anyone with a good understanding know if there is any feasibilty of changing my pre to octal sockets /6SN7's & would this increase the gain? On the other hand, maybe changing it to 6SN7's would kill how nice it sounds, 'comparitvely' speaking and a shame as I have a cupboard full of 6SN7's.

I love this old thing but it barely has enough gain to drive my Audiopax 88s on CD and the phonostage, although appearing (to my untrained eyes)very similar in layout to the Syrah has so little gain to be less than useless.

I still have my Syrah but not keen to go back to it after hearing this pre, which possibly due to the much heavier psu, sounds way better.
I'm also assuming the increased transparency and the lack of
histrionics every time my wife brings her mobile phone into the house is down to the stepped attenuator volume control as opposed to the Syrah's remote.
Talk about a two edged sword :-(
First impressions on my Malbecs. They make my Coincident Total Victory speakers sing! They never sounded as good before. Very well controlled bass, excellent mid and high frequencies. No problem of hum or any kind of noise at all. They definetively will replace my very well regarded Golden Tube 300b MK I. Pablo.
Thanks Pablov, What is db of your speaker?

I have Syhra pre. Anyone can advise me how to control the switch at the front and the other two switch in the middle and the knob on the back. Note that i play linestage only.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Houstonreef,

re your Syrah, the sitch top front is for the tape loop,
should be in the forward position unless the tape loop is in use.
The two toggles mid top alter the gain of the line stage(one for each channel),
on mines at least they switch backwards for high gain & foward for the lower gain.
The 5 position switch to the rear is in it's highest setting when turned fully anti clockwise and reduces the gain when switched clockwise.
I tend to set the gain as high as I can without 'tube rush' being intrusive but that will depend on your system.
Hope this helps
