I don't know if this is the best ending but it is one of my favorites.
Check out the song Gold Digging Whore by Steel Panther.
It always brings a smile to my face and is unique to me I can't think of a song where they spell out the song title to end it. The laugh and cash register bell ring are the cherry on top to the ending IMO too. |
LMAO!!!! My favorite part of a Cher album is the groove cut in the vinyl between songs. |
|
Charyo, you have me ROTFLMAO big time. And you are absolutely correct. |
The song with the best ending is anything sung by Celine Dion, Cher and all the other hog-callers of their ilk. |
Star Spangled Banner /thread |
Sweet "Love is Like Oxygen", of course the ending to me is where the song just gets interesting. In other words, it ends way too soon. |
First thought was definitely "A day in the life", but absolutely nothing by the Allman Brothers. I don't think they have any idea how to end a song. |
Dylan stands alone against any backdrop. However, I finally shut a woman up one time by responding ' yea, he's great. But he did lots of shitty stuff too'. She happened to walk in when I had Dylan on my portable system on a job I was working on. She started ranting about how great he is, talking over the music. It was Blood On The Tracks:) |

...King and the Queen of Hearts could be a perfect hand! I often use this song at the table gaim from David Byrne/ Fat Boy Slim album |
People tell me it's a sin To know and feel too much within. I still believe she was my twin, but I lost the ring. She was born in spring, but I was born too late Blame it on a simple twist of fate.
To me, Bob Dylan's 'Simple Twist of Fate' is the ultimate song. I'm not saying its my favorite musically, but the lyrics are incomparable to anything I've ever heard in my life. I could have pasted the entire song. There's no match for his genius. Again, he's not my favorite yet I cannot deny his absolute amazing genius with spoken word.
You have to seriously listen to Bob Dylan. He's not good back ground music. |
Jackson Browne's These Days - ending in "Don't confront me with my failures; I have not forgotten ... them." |
"Her majesty's a pretty nice girl, but she doesn't have a lot to say...someday I'm gonna make her mine, oh yeah..." |
I Don't Need No Doctor / Humble Pie Heartbreaker / Grand Funk Railroad Always was a sucker for false endings. |
Damn I've just sold my original UK issue album with lyrics and forgot them right away, but you might be right! |
Not sure but, is that not 'united' we stand? Just because we're together doesn't mean we're united, right? I love a good debate:) |
Together we stand, Divided we fall! |
Perpetual Change by Yes, kick you heart up a notch! Salt of the Earth by the Stones - great piano... |
The last minute of the Art Of Noise "Beat Box(Diversion One)". The piano is fantastic in it's softness and quite contrary to the previous 7+ minutes of the song. |
Life's been good by the Eagles. |
Having watched "Woodstock" on VH1 this week, the ending chords of Hendrix's "Star Spangled Banner" are pretty distinctive and memorable for an entire generation. |
I've got blisters on my fingers
Helter Skelter - Beatles |
Springsteen's "Jungleland" |
|
Ditto with "Day in the Life" -
However, I can listen to the final two minutes of Roxy Music's "More than This" for hours and hours. Those layered keys, the sax, the guitars; the hypnotically steady rhythm - they all fade into sunset over and over. |
The End- The Doors Blood Sweat and Tears I agree with Cinnamon Girl- N. Young (In high school, Los Lobos played it with some wonderful enhancements). Don't Worry Baby- Los Lobos Crossroads- Cream (Eric Clapton, please, vocals...) |
"Grandpa's Hologram" by the Austin Lounge Lizards.
If you can find it you'll hear what I mean.
Also, "Cheese and Onions" by the Rutles has a great ending which is a parody on "A Day in the Life" |
Agree with "A Day in the Life" Here are a few other off the run suggestions: Rain Parade- No Easy Way Down Yes- Gates of Delerium Dixie Dregs- Cruise Control Pearl Jam- Yellow Ledbetter SRV- Voodoo Chile/slight return (live version) |
'Sir Psycho Sexy' - Red Hot Chili Peppers 'On Jesus Program' - Mark Lanegan (cover) 'Black' - Pearl Jam 'Three Days' - Jane's addiction 'Eclipse' - Pink Floyd '100°' - Kyuss |
All great suggestions, I feel it all begins with 'A Day in the Life'. |
Side 2 Abbey Road medley. |
David Bowie's 'Rock n Roll Suicide'

Suppers Ready - Genesis Nine Feet Underground - Caravan Dabsong Concerto - Caravan Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band - Moody Blues Long Goodbyes - Camel Still Life and Killer - Van Der Graaf Generator
Man Erg by VDGG maybe the best of all. GReat throughout but the big ending starts at around 9 minutes in. Beethoven would have been proud...
The songs with the best endings are often the last track of a pretty good album as a whole. |
Last Chance Texaco-Rickie Lee Jones. Especially when I saw her at the outdoor Mt. Winery amphitheater in Saratoga, Ca recently. She played past the noise curfew and the sound system was turned off with another minute to go in the song. She finished it unamplified under the moonlit night sky and I don't think a single person in the crowd took a breath for that last minute. Sublime. |
A Day in the Life -- The Beatles |
