Trenner & Friedl Sun

Hi all, thinking about buying Trenner & Friedl Suns for a small nearfield set up, mostly analog listening with a Belles Aria Integrated. Has anyone heard these who can comment on them. I know there are lots of alternatives, mostly I am looking for the opinion of folks who have heard or own these speakers.

I was lucky because the Trenner & Friedl dealer in my area works out of his home and brings gear to the customer's location for audition. As I suggested before, contact the distributor and ask about options for auditioning.

I have and it will take a few months to get my hands on a pair to audition. Kind of impatient so was looking for others who have them. It is interesting to me that I don’t hear much about them nowadays but after the Stereophile review they were discussed often. I did hear them at the dealer and as I stated, with the right amp I was surprised by how good those little boxes sounded. They aren’t anywhere near the “best stand mounted speakers” as the review suggested, but in my limited review of them I was quite impressed.

Hi all! First post!

I am running them on a nearfield setup: I listen 6 feet away from them in a tiny space with not-great acoustics. They are on shelves, higher than they should (but canted down to counteract it) and about 5 inches from the wall, which needed some acoustic foam behind them to balance boominess.

I listen to Jazz mostly and small ensembles classical. My dB meter averages around 52 dBs. and peaks at  60 dB. at the listening position, So not very loud. Below these levels, I need to engage the Loudness button on my Luxman (Class A 30w/60w into 8Ω/4Ω).

In my very non-ideal context, they sound full and dynamic. If I sit closer than 6 feet, the sensation remains.

I believe the Suns like an abundance of current, favoring solid state over tubes. This seems to be backed by your experience with the Elixir and the Leben.

Quinster, welcome to the forum. I actually finally got a pair for home edition in a midfield/nearfield set up (about 6-8 ft away) in use with a Belles Aria integrated. The combination is fantastic. I agree with your findings. The Suns sound fantastic driven by the Belles Aria Integrated . It’s 65WPC is more than enough to drive them. They are an amazing little speaker in the right set up, and I agree they need a good amount of SS power. But boy when they get that power they are shockingly good. Of course they are limited by their size, but in the right set ip I highly recommend them!
