I think I've fixed (at least for now) the problem. I recently bought this table locally, and basically took it apart and reassembled it. What I thought was the motor making the tapping noise, ended up being a lack of bearing oil in the sub platter well. I had nothing to go by as far as how much oil to use, but apparently I didn't put enough into the bearing well. I added about 15 more tiny drops, and the noise went away. It seems that the bottom of the spindle was grinding a bit against the ball bearing. Try adding a few drops at a time, then place the platter back on and give it a run. Don't forget that each time you remove the sub platter, it will remove some of the oil since the bottom of the spindle will be covered in it!
Walker CJ55 Motor
The motor in my CJ55 has a constant thumping (tapping) noise that vibrates the entire table ever so slightly. I notice a tiny bit of slack in the belt pulley, and when I lift up on it, it runs smooth. As soon as I let go, it drops a bit and the thumping begins again. There's no way to get inside the motor without drilling out the pins that hold it together. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement motor that isn't too expensive? I've seen the Origin motor, but I'd like to keep the cost down. Thanks for your help!
