Bass leaves after amp warms up?
Ok Fish..., here's what I got off the web.HT Lab Test (12/07): The Synchrony One's listening-window response (a five-point average of axial and +/–15-degree horizontal and vertical responses) measures +1.18/–2.24 decibels from 200 hertz to 10 kilo...
Bass leaves after amp warms up?
No way! Are the Bryston integrateds as muscular as a separate Bryston power amps. Call the factory and ask the techs. I can't go back to read all the steps taken to isolate the problem, but I assume working backwards you eliminated your source com...
Audio Research Corp Ref 5 SE
Dbarger, I think I will stand corrected. I pulled out some LPs I haven't listened to in a while and I think there really may be a real difference. Btw, I also correct myself re the hours. It's only 285 right now. So, the Ref 5 SE is still breaking...
Bass leaves after amp warms up?
Fish . . . I looked the dealer up on the internet. It appears he carries Bryston. If a Bryston amp can't drive those speakers, nothing can. I like the idea of trying an extremely robust amp like a Bryston. But do check out Zero the autoformer web ...
Simple & Cheap Way to Cut Turntable Vibrations
Swampi . . . It had to be done, so yes . . . I did say it. I'm a believer now, I will follow up on what I said.
Bass leaves after amp warms up?
Fishing, Al (Almarg) and Ralph (Atmasphere). I just read above that there is speculation about the ability of the variosu amps used to drive low impedance speakers. Dunno for sure. But if that is the culpret, then I see 3 options: (1) change the s...

Thanks guys for the advise. Looks like it's time to get some balls.

Very good question Phil. Perhaps Dbarger will illuminate us. Here's a 10,000 foot response at 350 hours. I think the changes ARE occurring but are very subtle. That's why it's hard for me to be more specific. But I can say this. The natural synerg...
Everything about this is wrong...
I hate uni-pivots . . . . and love them too. It's a love/hate thing. But properly set up, my uni-pivot sounds great. Just listened to Chuck Dutoit conducting the Orchestre symphonique de Montreal, Stravinsky's The Firebird (London Digital 1986 414...

Thanks for that info Dbarger. I will absolutely keep an open mind and look forward to even better listening. Btw, ARC told me that upgraded Ref 5s should take only 300 hours to break in. I think real-time experiences like yours are helpful to know.
Audio Research Corp Ref 5 SE
Thanks Djcxxx. Your comments kinda' substantiate my general reactions that at some point, there are diminishing returns. I used to own the Ref 3 too. I had the same reactions as did you about the change from the Ref 3 to the Ref 5, and then again ...
Any inexpensive ways to check acoustic response
Thanks Jjrenman. Can you advise on the brand names and where I can buy the meter and test disc? My thought is to check the readings from my listening chair. Btw, to supplement my OP a bit, the reason I want to check the actual acoustics at my chai...
Audio Research HD 220 Hybrid Amplifier
Check the Forum archives. Some of the members posted comments. Also, if you're really interested in the HD220, call Kal at ARC. He shared some comments with me that you should probably hear directly from him.
Audio Research Corp Ref 5 SE
Ok guys. I have about 300 hours on the Ref 5 SE. I guess it's run in by now. Here's my reactions FWIW.Yeah, I think the SE version has a more refined sound presentation. Just sounds a bit smoother. Better bass and punchier -- probably because the ...
Tubes/SS Power Amps?
Guys, I appreciate that Orpheus asked about SS/tube amps and raised a specific concern about heat. I think many of the posts above are excellent and responsive. However, it's unclear whether Orpheus has considered electrical compatibility with his...
