Speakers for audio and home theater
Get speakers geared towards music first. It must be important to you, as you are on these forums.I started, correction, re-started my journey back into ‘hifi’ by setting up a HT set-up with speakers more geared for that purpose. Problem, I soon re...
CD Player vs. music streaming
I too have and would recommend both, but it is my experience that playing my CD’s is more enjoyable than streaming for serious listening. Almost always I pick a CD over streaming to ‘really’ listen to one of my classical (or any) selections, but l...
Best used DAC under $750.
I purchased a used PS Audio DLIII Digital Link from The Music Store this past year and have been very pleased with it. I believe right around $360 shipped (which is pretty typical). It also has XLR outs. I run both my CD’s and all streaming throug...
Blown away with 2 speakers hifi sound!
Then I stand corrected.
Blown away with 2 speakers hifi sound!
Gongli3, in regards to connecting a DAC via the optical on your TV, doubtful. Most optical on TV’s are an input, and do not output sound. You may want to look for a DAC that has a HDMI input that can connect the DAC and TV as an input/output conne...
Noob, need help please
Which is why my old B&K Amp has been my solid choice after trying a Nelson Pass Adcom (to ‘cold’ with my Yamaha AV receiver). The B&K, using my AV receiver as a pre/pass-thru, warmed everything up, sounds sweet as can be, and improved the ...
Noob, need help please
Not sure why he would need an integrated if he can pre-out to a dedicated amp, using the AV receiver as the pre. That is what I do, and over time have attempted to take my Yamaha out of equation completely, only really using it as a pass-thru and ...
Best Way for my TT to reach my Pre-Amp!?
Something you may want to consider is the iFi Micro iTube2 connected between your Marantz and Atoll amp. It will provide you some ‘tube magic’ no mater what your source is, including your phono stage. On a whim I picked one up used and placed it b...
Best Way for my TT to reach my Pre-Amp!?
For the money, it’s hard to beat the Schiit Mani and Blue Jeans LC-1 low capacitance RCA cables, and will far exceed the built-in phono stage of your receiver. Been there, doing that.
Noob, need help please
You can get a higher end AV receiver for less than $1,000 US on sale, or refurbished. My Yamaha was $900+/- retail, but found a refurbished one with warranty for about $425 US. I then found and bought a used respected dedicated 2 channel amp for a...
Noob, need help please
Yes, can get a separate pre/multi-channel processor, but then need a multi-channel amp. But, for a very nice set-up like that you could easily exceed your $1,000 budget. There are some good ‘higher end’ companies that make these kind of products. ...
Need a SACD DVD player on a low budget.
I was looking at Oppo’s, but as you, was also budgeting myself. I finally settled on a used Yamaha BD A1040 (came out originally as direct competition to the Oppo). It could/may fit your price range if you keep your eyes peeled, and I believe does...
Robert Hunter unfortunately has died
As a ’active’ Deadhead in the 70’s, very sad news indeed. To me the Dead died when Jerry did, but those two together were an awesome duo. Now both gone.Great list Andrew.
