the smoothest sounding speaker Zapper: Which Silverlines do you own? What do feed them with? I've heard several models at HE shows and always enjoyed them. TIA.
Speaker life expectancy: How long can you buy used I know this flies in the face of everybody else's experience, but my Advent New Large Utility speakers, which I got new in 1978 (!) still work fine. The tweeter level switches need a cleaning (I think), but so far, the foam woofer surrounds are in...
the smoothest sounding speaker Other brands known for a smooth mid & treble range: Silverline Audio, Vienna Acoustics, Sonus Faber, Opera, Roman Audio and DCM TFE series. Of these, IMHO, the best resolution would be Silverline and Roman, and the Vandersteens offer decent re...
The Worst Speaker you have ever heard. Just my $0.02: The associated gear can make a world of difference here, as can the acoustic environment. I've heard Thiels sound like crap, but I've also heard them sound wonderful. Likewise for Wilson. At one HE show, Von Schweikert was demoing t...
Rotel vs NAD vs Marantz I cannot speak for the Marantz, but the bottom few octaves were one of the major differences between the NAD 541i and the Rotel RCD-02 I auditioned when I bought a new player in late 2002. The NAD had thick, fat bass that lacked a bit of definitio...
Vandersteen 3A Sig listening window Vandys are funny that way. I always had the tilt-back correct on my 1Cs (with a pair of 2Wqs), but I read somewhere that one should also level the speaker out from side-to-side. Since my basement floor is uneven, the speakers were leaning to one s...
james audio subs My brother has a pair in his HT (Arcam front end and Totem speakers). He loves them. I hope to visit eventually and hear the system myself.
Anyone cure hum with isolation transformers? Well, once everything was connected, the hum was gone! Go figure. However, the ac power is still a bit noisy, and there is a much lower level buzz, audible only quite near the speakers. I will address power filtering, but for now, it's a back-burn...
Are the Marantz SA7001 and Marantz 8001 the same? I read somewhere that the 8001 was more like the special edition of the 7001, the 7001 "KI" version. The prices, allowing for ~$2 to the Pound, would seem to back this up. The same reviews reference that publication's review of the 7001 KI.
Seperating movie from CD. http://www.slysoft.com/en/ I don't use it. Never have, never will. ;-)
Vandersteen Quatro I actually have 2 great local Vandy dealers... unfortunately, as I stated above, the 2Ce is too wide for the alcove of my room where the speakers must reside. Hence the requirement of a more narrow width profile speaker.
Anyone cure hum with isolation transformers? Thanks, all. Due April's flood, I am just now about to reassemble my system. I will work backwards from the amp in order to locate the source of the hum, then try the appropriate device. I'll report back.
Vandersteen Quatro Thanks, Mrjstark. I heard the Lipinskis at HE2007. The sounded very nice, but are beyond my price range (especially since I'll need to replace my Vandy center speaker with a matching center speaker as well). I've heard the Zu speakers at several s...
Vandersteen Quatro Ozzy62: Actually, the overall dimensions of my basement room are 26 X 20 X 6 (low ceiling), but the area best suited for the front wall is an alcove about 10' wide. Considering I need the front mains to clear a RPTV screen (I know, but that's what...
Raysonic 168 Mrtennis: By implication, are you saying that you find the MF A5 dark sounding? I am curious, as I have never heard this player referred to as dark, or lacking in detail resolution. |
