Review : Emerson ER-7001 Am/Fm radio. Return of the radio king! Cool. I love cheap 'n' cheerful audio! I have an old Sangean table radio with auxiliary input in the kitchen. Got it free. Just plug in your phone or DAP for tunes. My earliest purchase was a Rat Shack table radio with wood cab and cloth speak...
DAC upgrade +1 for the Denafrips Pontus II. Fabulous DAC for the money.
Why No McIntosh Recommendations? Going on 13 years with my C220 preamp that I bought used from Audio Classics. Great purchase. Sounds terrific, lots of useful features. No desire to upgrade except to higher up the McIntosh line. I recommend it wherever appropriate, as they ar...
Tube preamp match with Solid Stare amp FWIW, I run a McIntosh C220 (discontinued) into an Arion Audio S500 switching amp. Love this combo. The C220, which you can find used without too much difficulty, has the features you want and more. It’s very good tube phono stage is MM only. Movi...
Musical subwoofer under $2000 Strong recommendation for a pair of used Vandersteen 2Wq subs. I bought one, then a second, and eventually bought the M5HP battery biased crossovers. They are, to me, ideal. Deep, tuneful bass when it's present in the source material, and not h...
Is there such a thing as a good medium priced music streamer? Strong recommendation for this streamer from SmallGreenComputer: https://www.smallgreencomputer.com/collections/systemoptique/products/opticalrendu-v2-0 It’s on sale. I have and enjoy the UltraRendu as part of the basic bundle from Andrew at Sma...
Sound Stage and Imaging My Ohm Walsh 2000s do what you want, as long as you don’t overdamp your room. $3800/pair new, but any larger Ohm Walsh speakers will produce similar results, and used, are often within your budget. Stick to models such as the 4 or 5, XO designatio...
power amp ideas for less than $3000 I own and really enjoy my Arion Audio S500. Yes, it's a switching amp, but it sounds great, not like some switching amps. Very clean, neutral sounding and gobs of power from a small, lightweight, cool running box. 500 watts per channel, in your...
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system I have a vintage Kenwood that I use mainly when doing needle drops via my Sugar cube SC-2+. Just a light touch of added low end seems to fill out some bass-shy records. The rest of my system is dialed in well enough that I don't need it for list...
Have you found your "End-Game" speakers yet? I have. And it feels so good!!! 12 years on I have no desire to upgrade my Ohm Walsh 2000s, each paired with a Vandersteen 2Wq subwoofer. If I win the lottery, sure, I would start auditioning. But nothing I have heard under $12,000 the pair makes me want to upgrade. And, yes, it...
A reasonably priced DAC upgrade from Schiit Gumby I tried the Gumby and returned it. The relay clicking between tracks when streaming drove me nuts. I ended up with a Denafrips Pontus II. I know you didn’t like the Ares, but to my ears, the Pontus II with updated firmware sounds very natural and ...
Anyone else suffering with Qobuz tonight Worked fine for a brief time last night in central NJ.
John Strohbeen from Ohm Acoustics passed away I spoke with John in person and by phone several times. Always patient and a gentleman. I have been thrilled with my Walsh 2000s since I bought them in 2009. I was one of the first to purchase this model, and it is my exit ramp speaker. He was a g...
Tube rolling on MacIntosh C2300 I believe you can shut the phono section off, so, in effect, you will have 4 spare tubes. FWIW, I swapped the factory tubes on my C220 for Mullards, current production. They are quieter and slightly warmer sounding than the stock tubes.
I won the stressless lottery Well, I have a pair of Stressless recliners with footrests. Unfortunately, I got these only after my folks passed. My mother's is a bit smaller than my father's. I actually prefer it over the larger one, since the back doesn't rise over my ears... |
