Songs you use when auditioning gear
My absolute favorite: Dire Straits, Album = Love Over Gold - Song = Private Investigations   The entire song is fantastic with an excellent sound stage, but about halfway through the song the dynamic range becomes explosive.
Cable Break In for the Naysayers
Ozzy - if that's what you hear then go for it.  The mind can do incredible things that feel very real.
Cable Break In for the Naysayers
I would be interested to know if anyone has ever done a blind or double-blind test with cables. Two sets of identical cables, one broken in for 500 hours, and the other with no hours of use.  The test would consist of the same amp, source and spea...
Upgrade My Turntable - How Much Do I Need to Spend?
Thank you all for your experience on the matter and your advice.   On a side note, it's always interesting to see how a thread like this goes off course onto a tangent that is far from the original question:  how big of a step up do I need to mak...
Upgrade My Turntable - How Much Do I Need to Spend?
I really hate to ask stupid questions, but I will anyway.... why would I not just use the MM or MC input on my McIntosh tube preamp?  Isn't this a "phonostage"?    And like I said, my apologies for the question - I am learning this analog as I go!
Martin Logan vs. Everything
I have ML Montis speakers in my 2 channel room and I love them just as much as the original poster on this thread.  I have heavily treated my room to make them as good as I possibly can, and I spent hours and hours and hours dialing them into the ...
Question: What are some of your best pieces of advise to someone new to the hobby?
Buy a laser measuring device so that you can measure the exact distance of both speakers from your primary listening position.  Fractions of an inch matter.
What is the VERY BEST CD album you've ever heard?
Diana Krahl, The Girl In The Other Room and Roger Waters, Amused To Death.
My Home Theatre Room Challenges - Is It Worth It To Upgrade Speakers
Improving my center channel (for dialogue quality) was absolutely one of my top priorities, and I feel like I accomplished that goal.  We now rarely turn on Closed Captioning, and we find voice quality to be much better - so I feel like we nailed ...
My Home Theatre Room Challenges - Is It Worth It To Upgrade Speakers
About a month ago, I started this thread and my intent was to gain input for ideas on improving the system that we use for movie watching in our family room.  I have a separate 2-channel room on the other side of the house that I use for the best ...
My Home Theatre Room Challenges - Is It Worth It To Upgrade Speakers
One more question:  I am zeroing in on adding the REL T7x sub to my system.  This sub has the ability to be wired with both High Level wiring (to speaker outputs) and also the LFE channel. Should I add this sub to my Center Channel outputs, or th...
My Home Theatre Room Challenges - Is It Worth It To Upgrade Speakers
WAF is very important in this room - if it was 100% about sound quality I would go with some big full-sized speakers, add some huge subs, and add acoustic treatment - but that is why I have my 2-channel room.
My Home Theatre Room Challenges - Is It Worth It To Upgrade Speakers
I just added it to the Virtual Systems section, labeled hikerneil's system. (Forgive me, I'm new and am still trying to figure things out!)   Thanks.
My Home Theatre Room Challenges - Is It Worth It To Upgrade Speakers
Oops, yes - the Premier 600C. I can't wait to hear the results.  I will post back with my feelings and feedback after I have made the changes.
My Home Theatre Room Challenges - Is It Worth It To Upgrade Speakers
Wow, thank you all for the feedback and ideas. I'm going to proceed with this plan: Use my existing bookshelf speakers, since the couches are going to stay where they are. Replace my center channel with a new Paradigm Founder 600c center chan...
