Low Output MC recommendations? Love both my AT33Sa and VAS Ebony 103 (essentially a custom DL103). But no idea what your budget is or the effective mass of your tonearm.
Need some Cart recommendations, $300 - $700 (New/Used) range…warm, full, yet great def. I would definitely consider an AT33Sa (MC, Shibata, .4mv) . I run it through a passive pre and st-70 tube amp...glorious detail with all the warmth.
Turntable noobie...what advice do you have? Music Millennium? You must be in Portland - like me! Great place. Definitely check out Mississippi Records, Tomorrow Records (lower Hawthorne), Exiled Records (upper Hawthorne), and Dig Vinyl in Sellwood. Discogs online is fun - once you find trus...
Vintage Integrated Amplifiers With Great Sound I have several integrateds, different classes, modern and vintage. The one that keeps coming back into the fold is my Sansui AU-999. Built like a tank, beautiful soundscape, warm and detailed, more than enough juice. Phono stage is excellent too.
Tuner choice Sansui TU-999 is my favorite. NAD 4300 also treats me right.
Speaker matching for Audiolab 6000A A bit out of your budget, but if you can stretch it, I can attest to the fact that the ProAc Tab 10 are an excellent match with the Audiolab 6000A. Especially for near-field listening. Incredible mids/highs without any crispy edges.
NAD M10 vs Marantz Model 30 If you’re worried about the Sprout filling that room, you should wait and try it first. 100w is plenty...same as the M30. I have a Sprout too, and the thing can produce huge sound when needed...and with excellent detail. As dekay mentioned, I woul...
A bit too "non-audiophile", but what are your favorite high-end tuners based on Looks? Not high-end but I love my Sansui TU 999.
Denon DL-103 retipped with micro ridge stylus on boron cantilever & denuded body On the East Coast we have VAS whom I and lots of people here have great confidence in I'm on the West coast, and I too have confidence in VAS. I run the Ebony 103...absolutely brilliant. But glad to know there are others out there providing qu...
Speaker Variety / Interim Recommendation I've heard amazing things about Zu. Yes, really sensitive, but really high impedance as well. Can handle up to 300 watts. Your amp should pair nicely. I would definitely put them on a shortlist. I would also check out ProAc. I love mine.
Looking at Turntable: belt drive or direct drive? $1,500 is a ton to drop on a "dipping your toes" kind of venture, but I can say +1 for the Technics SL1200 MK2. I have a few decks (new, used, dd, belt) and the 1200 continues to be my go-to. Built like a tank and rock solid on delivering beautifu...
Marantz receiver questions I find it interesting it's cutting out with bare wires screwed on. That's pretty much as clean a signal as you can get. That binding post might be shot. Have you tried the second pair (system 2) speaker posts?
2nd system thoughts on vintage receivers jim5559 Totally. Continues to fly under the radar.
Thorens 160 motor fix or replace? I don't have a specific answer for you, but I've always found this site helpful. https://www.theanalogdept.com/thorens_td_160_dept_.htm Perhaps you can find some useful info there, or at least maybe Steve Clarke (webmaster) might have some insig...
Looking for nearfield passive speakers that are warm and rich Crap website, and I don't even know if they're still in business but I would reach out and inquire. I own a pair of the 1.6 WC and will never part with them. Best bookshelf speakers I've ever owned. If you want detail PLUS warmth...the wool carbon... |
