BAT VK-D5, worthwhile to get external dac? I don't think it would be worthwhile, especially if you continue using the BAT as only a transport. If you're happy with the sound, keep it. Maybe send it to BAT for the 24 bit digital upgrade. If the upgrade bug does bite, and you do buy another ...
Single layer 2 channel v. multichannel v. hybrid? The multichannel will also play in stereo. I have a Sony DVP-S9000ES DVD/SACD player that is stereo only. It plays multichannel discs fine. I wouldn't worry so much about the formats, sound quality has more to do with the recording process. I've h...
Best cartridge under $450? No Grados please Can't go wrong with the Dynavector 10X5, one of the best values in hifi period, not just in phono cartridges. IMHO.Regards,John
Will tube amp give more of an analog sound to CD's Ceb222, you are correct, even the best sounding cd's lack the sound acheived by LP. It's inherent in the format. I would suggest playing more LP's. It seems to have worked for me. I have a tube cd player and a tube preamp, with a solid state amp. ...
SACD 2 channel vs Redbook 2 Channel Not exactly...try LP's, it makes the above challenge a mute point.
To preamp or not to preamp??? If the only source you use is a CDP, I'd say go ahead and try one without a preamp.
Wait a Minute Do those Cardas Caps Work I use them too, can't say that I've heard a difference though.
Dynaudio S5.4 and ML No.436? I agree with Gregm. I also don't think ML is the way to go for warmer sound. I'd recommend trying Classe, Rowland, BAT, or McCormack. All will be warmer than ML.
Sonic Frontiers Line 2 / Classe CP-60 for CAM-200 You have to decide on tube or solid state. As a former owner of the CP-60, I can't recommend it highly enough. The best SS preamp I ever owned or auditioned. That is a very extensive list too, including the likes of Krell and Levinson gear. That b...
Best Preamp Audio Research LS5 versus BAT VK-5i/SE I'm in the same situation, I'm checking out the AR LS-5, BAT VK-5i and a Sonic Frontiers Line 2. I've been leaning towards the BAT, because I enjoy the family signature. I actually feel the BAT is warmer then the LS5. Although I thought the LS 5 w...
SACD Opinions: Gimmick? Like it? Don't? Why? SACD is a definite improvement over redbook cd's. The whole frequency range is clearer, and sounstaging is much larger. However, that being said, there isn't enough software out there for me to go bonkers over SACD. I own a Sony DVP-S9000ES, which...
Should I add a 2 ch preamp to my HT system Nix the pre/pro, get a quality stereo preamp with a HT bypass. You'll never look back, I didn't. May I suggest a Classe CP-60, or a Sonic Frontiers Line 2, if you're into tubes. Regards,John
Solar Flares keep coming Slipknot1, ROTFLMAO! The scary thing is, you're probably right. Come to think of it, when I stare into the sun directly, I can swear I see Osama bin Laden!
BAT VK500 upgrade struggles I agree with Bemopti123. The bright problem started with the BAT amp, you could try band-aids like MIT cables and/or Shunyata power cords. However, I would recommend switching to a amp more suited to your tastes. Your speakers and preamp say that ...
Advise on cartridge for Scout Tim,I'd try a Dynavector 10X5, I never tried one of the new ones, but I was very impressed with the older 10X4 mk II version. One of the best 'bang for the buck' cartridges out there, IMHO.Regards,John |
