Gallo reference /TAS vs Me I had some Ref3's for about a month and drove them with the complete opposite end of the amp spectrum. I kept my Innersound ESL 300 MKIII amp, per the suggestion of the guys at Gallo, and had great results. I whole heartedly agree about facing the...
speaker with high WAF Cain and Cain's, all of them are absolutely beautiful. Also, I don't like the speakers but MartinLogan's look great. I have a solution as well. I have had Magnepan 1.6qr's and now 3.6R's, and my wife loves the sound hates the look. But, they are s...
Martin logan vs. B&W Well Stravinsky's the Firebird would sound better on the B & W's, a Beethoven piano concerto would sound much better on the Martin Logan's. That said, I really have trouble with hybrid speakers in general. The sound differences between the ver...
Subwoofer for under $1000-new, used, or DIY For musical bass, Vandersteen 2wq is the only sub you can get for under $1000 (used) that is what you have described. It is not a "Rumble Box" as mentioned above, but perfectly compliments speakers such as mini monitors, true ribbons, or electrost...
what speakers for 4k or less new or used OK, back again: Maggie 3.6R. There is a reason most people who have ever owned Maggie buy again. Simply the best speaker made. Ethereal.

Anthem processors: AVM20 v. AVM30 v. D1 OK, I have an AVM 30 and it is AWESOME!! That said, I listened to and test drove the D1 from my dealer. With my equipment at the time, Innersound ESL 300 amp, Maggies 3.6R speakers, Velodyne DD-12 sub, Onkyo DS-1000 player, Sony 50" LCD, I didn't ...
Vandersteen 5a's - an upgrade from Vienna mahlers? Vandy's, Vandy's, Vandy's. One of the best speakers I have ever heard. I put them up with the Quad 989's, Magnepan 20.1's, SoundLab Ultimates, and Wilson's (just about all). There is so much good stuff out there now, isn't there?
Processor hunt....does this animal exist?? Krell HTS series, Meridian (pricey, but really reall good), Parasound C2, Anthem AVM 30 (D1 if you have the budget)!!
Best versatile speakers? Cool. I wonder why there are not more active speakers out there? Paradigm made some great ones a few years back and no one wanted them until they stopped making them. Could you follow up when you get them? Enjoy.
Best versatile speakers? I agree with Nickway on the Maggies, I think they are great on Rock music, not as good as Paradigms or the Gallos (which I own), but they definitely have other advantages. I don't listen to modern lyric poetry set to music written and recorded by ...
