A Soundsmith Re-tip Believer @chakster Goldring offers retip services.Expert Stylus was the European approved service facility for the time when the elder Sugano was retired. They also have their own cut for diamond profile.
A Soundsmith Re-tip Believer Funny how these conversations go to the extremes. A third party retipper will make a lowly cartridge into a top end performer, or they butcher it and no possible way it can be anywhere as good as it was. I suppose with many things the mode of prob...
Looking For Candidates For That Mythical 6922 Tube @janpro8 Well I am waiting for some tubes to arrive. This might be my last ditch effort to find a working combination. I ordered a couple pair of the Voskhod 6n23p with the single wire and getter, We will see how these work out. As a wild card, I ...
The "Broken Blue Point Special Club" Quite a few years ago I was able to buy 3 or 4 BPS with missing cantilevers. I sent them off to Andy Kim for retip, and he used a higher quality cantilever and diamond than what was OEM. The end result was a very good cartridge for not a lot of mo...
Turntable Mats: Rubber, Felt or Cork. A person I know used to have the tag line, "different is easy, better, not so much" I suspect this can apply to mats also. I bought my third table second hand, its a base model Brinkmann Bardo, I put an Audiomods Series Six arm on it and an Ortofo...
Looking For Candidates For That Mythical 6922 Tube Oh speaking of Amperex 6922pq. Bought a pair of those too. Not enough clarity and transparency. Too much of that tube warmth to work in this system. Nice tube...for a different system.
Looking For Candidates For That Mythical 6922 Tube So I have been down the road of several of the Amperex, a couple of Siemens, Tungsram, Telefunken, and I forget what else. Never been a fan of a Mullard that I heard, one of those tubes would have to be far different than what the typical Mullard ...
GRGAUDIO Yeah unless its a personal friend I never use friends and family. That 3.3% fee is the cheapest insurance you can buy.
Considering A SS amplifier So I have the F7 hooked up for about 3 hours now. Its starting to warm up and settle in. The top end is where the majority of the difference is, just more nuanced and delicate. The edges of notes arent rounded off, has a more honest feel to the mu...
Audiomods Tonearm..... Continous run
Considering A SS amplifier Actually I have a First Watt F7 that I am not sure if I tried it with the Halcro. I think I will put that together this afternoon to see what it does.
Advice on setting VTA My thoughts on VTA is that you are actually looking to get stylus rake angle correct. You find the figure from the manufacturer and then look to hit that. Now some folks use USB microscopes and superimpose a compass over it to get the measurement ...
Are 500 hours too many for a used hi-end cartridge? If in the $1K price range its hard to go wrong with an Audio Technica ART9. You might also find a discounted price on an Ortofon Cadenza Red. Folks seem to like the Hana cartridges also.
Orosonic/Monster Cable Reflex Record Clamp @rauliruegas Personally I feel the same way. Vacuum clamping is the choice I prefer as you get the most even coupling of record to platter. But even that has degrees of success. When I bought an early SOTA Star Sapphire as a proof of concept to se...
Are 500 hours too many for a used hi-end cartridge? I have been fortunate buying used cartridges, and I have done so. But the way I look at it I want to buy a cartridge that is above a certain level where it makes the idea of retipping an economic possibility. My opinion is this. Cartridge manufact... |
