My first Tube Amplifier September 1981: Bought a rare single-chassis dual-mono Futterman H3aa (#111AB) OTL amp from Bob Heenan at Q Audio, Cambridge MA. $750. Used it with a pair of Quad 57's (22585, 25391). Sold it July 1991 for $600. It needed new tubes and servicing. ...
Modern speaker comparable to Tannoy R3? Checkout Tekton Enzo's!
What I miss about vintage gear Get a Lava Light, place it between your speakers, dim the room lights, turn on some music. Smokeable herbal substance optional!
ANALOGUE AND DIGITAL SYNERGY The LP is actually quite modern! Invented in 1948 at CBS! And a major advance over the 78! The stereo LP arrived in '58 - along with the cartridge capable of playing them! Goodbye Mono!
ANALOGUE AND DIGITAL SYNERGY I also collect and use vintage tube gear: amps, preamps, tuners and integrated! A technology from 1907! Thank Lee DeForest for this! Some SS enthusiasts would laugh at this! Yet there's something about the sound from nicely warmed up tube equipmen...
ANALOGUE AND DIGITAL SYNERGY freediver: lighten up, man! Back in '79 when I learned of the Sony/Philips collaboration to develop and market an optical digital record and playback system, I said I would throw away my LP's if they could perfect it! No more TT, tonearm, cartridg...

Hendrix 50th Anniversary Electric Ladyland Box Release I watched it on a black-n-white TV at my high school friend's house, along with his father. We thought that teeth trick was Jimi just being a show-off!
Hendrix 50th Anniversary Electric Ladyland Box Release Anybody here remember seeing Hendrix on the David Frost TV show? Talked with Frost and then got to play one song - with his teeth! July '69 - before Woodstock.
Hendrix 50th Anniversary Electric Ladyland Box Release From Axis Bold As Love: "I've got my own life to live through - and I ain't gonna copy you!" - If Six Was Nine. Lest we forget, Jimi had to go to London first to be "discovered" - before his return to America. Electric Ladyland was first issued by...
Amps under $5500 new or used Stereophile had a review some years ago! Probably available in their archives!
Amps under $5500 new or used Why not a NYAL Moscode 300? Tube input and driver stages (four 6CG7/6FQ7). MOSFET output stages - 150wpc. Designed by George Kaye. The best of both worlds: Tube smoothness and harmonic detail, SS power and control of difficult speaker loads! I hav...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer... +1 analogluvr! I had one of those FR MC201's a long time ago! Great then, still great today!
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer... The owner got most of the profits. Sales clerks were just peons. No profit sharing! 19th Century capitalism at its best!
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer... Regardless of whatever you call it (percent or points) the dealer makes a profit in US dollars of approximately $1500+ on a $5K sale. I worked in a high-end audio store and I saw what the actual costs were for many products. No altruism there! |
