I bought a Marantz at Goodwill and now I have a few questions Keep the Sonus speakers for now. Bi-wiring IMO does nothing! If you can, run your sub using long rca ICs from the "sub out" jacks on the Marantz.
Spend my $1000 on a turntable +1 bpoletti & grinnell! A VPI HW19 painted gloss red with a good arm (Jelco) and cartridge (Grado) would be "da bomb"! Maybe I should paint my HW19 red too!
I bought a Marantz at Goodwill and now I have a few questions That SR-18 was TOTL in 20002 and cost around $2K! You got a bargain for sure! Use and enjoy it as a 2-channel amp!
I bought a Marantz at Goodwill and now I have a few questions Yes, the inexpensive Project is an excellent sounding phono stage. The only thing lacking is an extra 0 in its price (for snob appeal)!
I bought a Marantz at Goodwill and now I have a few questions Get a Project Phono Box and sell/give away the Onkyo!
Onkyo & Pioneer “UDP-LX500”, a universal disc player, Do you mean "made in the same Chinese factory"? Why care! They all sound the same! Let the rock throwing begin!
Classical Recordings from the Golden Age I like to listen to mono LPs and CDs on my stereo system. Image is centered between the two speakers.
Classical Recordings from the Golden Age You can play stereo CDs using the mono switch on your preamp (if it has one). If not, then a y-connector (2 males to either 1 m/f) from your preamp's two left-right outputs will work.
I bought a Marantz at Goodwill and now I have a few questions Use the "tape out" on your Onkyo into an aux input on the Marantz for phono use.
I bought a Marantz at Goodwill and now I have a few questions No phono stage and an actual 110 wpc.
Do electrolytic caps need burn in? You should have just used the same value caps as the originals. Second-guessing the circuit designers is not a good idea!
LP Cleaning After cleaning an application of LAST record preservative might be beneficial. And using STYLAST on your cartridge can increase diamond life and reduce groove wear.
LP Cleaning One of the new ultrasonic machines would be worth getting, especially if you could share the cost with a friend.
LP Cleaning I have cleaned my LPs by hand using a wet process and air drying. I do the whole record, including label. Never had any problems!
Can someone point me in the right direction? LP player / Preamp / Dragonfly Red... If your Sony has a phono stage, keep and use it. If not, add a Bellari tube phonostage ($350). No real need to discard the Sony! |
