Does Time alignment and Phase coherency make for a better loudspeaker?
I agree with 8th-note.  I have the Thiel CS6 speakers too.   On some recordings I feel like I could get the singer's autograph.  The top Vandersteens are the only other speaker I have heard that does that and sounds a bit better.  All it takes is ...
Isolation Feet Recommendation for Equipment Rack
I have confirmed everything millercarbon has said using empirical measurements.  I don't know why I didn't isolate with springs before.  They are incredibly effective.  The nobsound spring isolators work well.  I am down to two springs per isolato...
Top 5 Reaons to NOT BUY A TURNTABLE.
I retired 10 months ago and am still struggling to get out of the time management mindset. I’m doing better. Other cars pass me on the road now- and I don’t care. Looking at this from a time management perspective Vinyl and reel to reel master tap...
One big reason why brick and mortar high end audio dealers struggle.
Back in the day, ie. late 1970's I found I could mail order camera gear from NYC for a 30% discount vs my local camera stores.  So I would go into the stores and make a cash offer for gear somewhere between MSRP and NYC prices.  Sometimes a deal w...
Is The FM tuner obsolete?
College late 1970s Terre Haute radio station WPFR played, Martian Boogie every Friday night.  That’s my best memory of FM radio.  By 1988 I got my first ARC preamp and have never had FM radio since.  In the car it was 8 track, cassette, CD, satell...
Frequency response while streaming stops at 15kHz- did I miss something in the fine print?
As it turns out it is not me and it is not Qobuz.  It is the Test CD in their library.  The question is why.  Why do some tracks on the CD cutoff at 15 kHz but other tracks do not?  And why did this happen on a test CD of all things?
Frequency response while streaming stops at 15kHz- did I miss something in the fine print?
This is all not so straight forward.  I streamed music, both 16 bit and 24 bit and I see frequenciies out to 20kHz.  Then I went back to the test disc on Qobuz titled, "Audio Line-up Test Tones".  Some tracks cut off at 15kHz such as the test tone...
Frequency response while streaming stops at 15kHz- did I miss something in the fine print?
I checked my Roon settings.  The only thing I find related to frequency response is a low pass filter which is set at 30 kHz.  I don't think that is the issue.  The speakers go the full 20 kHz when playing back a FLAC version of my CD test disk lo...
Frequency response while streaming stops at 15kHz- did I miss something in the fine print?
I use the app called n-track tuner on my iPhone. My vinyl test record is Stereo Review SRT14 from the 1980s. It’s hard to use for wow and flutter measurements because the hole is off center by almost the full tolerance- or maybe that’s they way th...
Why are there no tube televisions anymore?
So out of curiosity I changed my picture setting on my TV to Cinema.  I find I like the picture better on this setting.  Live and learn.
In praise of isolation.
I stuffed foam inside the springs that I am using for dampening on my speakers and amps.  I believe you want the spring/mass system resonance to be between 3-4 Hz.  That seems to be effective at isolating the speakers, amps, etc from the floor. I ...

Total cost for my project was just under $200.  Most of that was for the butcher blocks.  The springs didn't cost much and I had to buy a 1.5" diameter Forstner bit- $15.  This project requires a drill press.  I have been using spikes on my speake...

The app is called VibrationAnalysys.

I just used the spring mass formula.  Fn= 1/2Pi * (k/M)^0.5So my 165 lbs speakers needed 4, 57 lbs/in springs for a 3.3 Hz resonance. That particular spring was available on the McMaster Carr website.
Why does bass have more “punch” when I stand up vs. sitting?
Yes, but only by 1/8”.
