Graham Phantom Elite vs. AS Aquilar Thank you for the information and PM offer. I'll look into the Audiomods and ping you if I have questions. Much appreciated.
Graham Phantom Elite vs. AS Aquilar @pindac , I see the Agile at £10.5 on the OL site, but your point is well-taken, that continued research and home auditions might yield a tonearm that I like more than my Graham for much less. What did you end up preferring to your SME IV, if I ma...
Graham Phantom Elite vs. AS Aquilar I guess my OP was unclear. I'd like to hear from forum members who have experience with the Phantom Elite, preferable the 10-in version, and/or the Acoustical Systems Aquilar. I'd like to know how they compare--in practice. I'm not so interested i...
Graham Phantom Elite vs. AS Aquilar OK, fine, whatever, man. Your opinions are noted. I have no interest in arguing with you.
Graham Phantom Elite vs. AS Aquilar I hear what you’re saying, and all else being equal, an unbroken run from clips to jacks might well be better. It is theoretically, at least. But all else is seldom equal. And the clean run alone does not make the difference. Case in point: for ye...
SET Lovers, what's the one solid state amp you love(d)? @soix +1. That’s where I’d look for a low-watt, Class A, solid state amp. I run two SET systems, one with 300B tubes one with 2A3. The SS amp that I love, and which delivers almost all the delicacy and tonality that I enjoy in those tube amps, is...
Qs about Grace F-9 U cartridge Completely agree with lewm. I bought a NOS, new in box F9e a few years ago. The Soundsmith replacement stylus was an obvious upgrade even from an used stock stylus.
Phantom Supreme to 4Point-14? @lewm , that would explain why the Mk2 I saw seemed like it was born to HiFiDo on hold. Last week I saw nice one on the Yahoo Japan auction site, complete in the box. Buyee, the bidding proxy for foreigners, would not allow me to bid more than 300...
A previous discussion included a statement about crossover components. Like several others in this forum, following Don Sachs's lead, I replaced the el cheapo caps in my Cornwall IV with V-cap ODAM, and the resistors with Path Audio. Big improvement in sound quality, but at a pretty big expense.
Amplifier for Cornwall IV I run my modded CW4s with a 300b amp and it is a superb combo. But were I interested only in solid state, I’d look seriously at the new Valvet E3S. Its 12 watts of Class A is more than you need. Never heard it but it looks very interesting. I almo...
How best to eliminate LP warps It seems like half the new LPs I buy these days are shaped like soup saucers, so I broke down and bought an Orb a few weeks ago. I love this thing! Flattens dependably without affecting sound quality, unlike the old Vinyl Flat I used to use. Excel...
Passive preamp I run systems with both active and passive preamps. What works best depends on synergy with the amp, as other posters have emphasized. Categorical statements about which is better don’t really apply. If your amp is friendly enough to passives (and...
Phantom Supreme to 4Point-14? @rauliruegas, I missed an EPA-100 Mk2 by an hour yesterday on HiFiDo! It was scarfed up almost immediately upon being listed, and at a good price. Dang! Many thanks to all who contributed to this thread. I have a lot to think about as I plan my n...
Phantom Supreme to 4Point-14? @mijostyn , I greatly appreciate your thoughtful post. I take your advice about VTA seriously and without offense. If it's a delusion, it is a persistent one, decades long, but perhaps confirmation bias is operating in more ways than one. I'm goi...
Phantom Supreme to 4Point-14? Lewm, Thom agrees with you. I just got off the phone with him. Great guy. And like many wise heads in this thread, he gently argued against per-record VTA changes. Then he gave up. :) |
