Affordable GaN FET amp from Peachtree Audio

Peachtree Audio is offering a Beta Test program for their new GaN 1 amp (not to be confused with their GaN400) and it's being offered at a substantial discount ($1299 instead of $1999) just for being part of the Beta Test group. It has only one digital coax input and that's it. 200 Watts/channel, zero feedback, and no DAC since the GaN FETs handle that.

All the best,
Nonoise

I bought the GAN1 but not delivered yet. I did however get delivery today of a unit that SHOULD allow me to connect to the GAN1 and adjust volume via ROON.

My streaming is done using FIbre Optical from a network switch to a Sonore OpticalRendu (ROON READY). Tthe OpticalRendu will connect to the unit that was delivered today, the Sonore UltraDigital. A USB cable from the OpticalRendu will be used to connect into the UltraDigital. From the UltraDigital I use a SPDIF cable to the GAN1. I have LPS for the OpticalRendu and UltraDigital.

I should be able to adjust volume on ROON by setting the OpticalRendu’s ROON END POINT settings to DEVICE VOLUME from FIXED.

I will report back here if it works. There is some concern by 1 of the Sonore principles that this may not work. Though 2 other Sonore folks tell me it will work.

@yyzsantabarbara by chance did setting the OR as a Roon End Point with device volume instead of fixed volume work? Seemed like Sonore wasn’t entirely definitive at the time of this writing in 2022.

@toro3 Funny you should ask about the GAN1 and oR. I was thinking of selling the GAN1 since I was not using it on either of my 2 systems even though it is my second best ’amp’. A lightbulb went off and I realized I should use the GAN1 for it’s original intended purpose. That is to be a headphone amp for my RAAL CA-1a using the TL-1b adapter. Sort of an in-home portable amp.

I bought another used Sonore Optical Rendu 2 days ago and will be setting it up as before. You just need to go to ROON Endpoint settings and change the Volume to DEVICE VOLUME. It works rather well. Not as good as a physical volume control or even a remote.

The only complication to streaming via SDIF into the GAN1 I had was with the Lumin X1 streamer. It actually has more features so it is a bit more complicated. I posted somewhere the settings to do that. The Lumin X1 has a remote that can control the GAN1 via SPDIF. I sold the Lumin X1.

@yyzsantabarbara great information from your response - thank you! The GAN1 definitely looks interesting as well.
