For your picture you should at least be using an S-vid. cable.--If your tv has an input for one of those.--Your dvd player has an s-out,for sure. This cable would be for picture only. Second choice would be a composite video cable.-- Looks like the standard interconnect.(also for picture only.) Get one specifically for video
For your audio; It depends how *up scale* your equipment is. Many budget receivers do just fine on the little *toslink*. --Coming out of the dvd player, into, say a receiver. This holds the same for a cd player as well.
Ok a coax cable:They look the same as a standard interconnect. You would want to get one specified as a *digital* cable. The signal carried by that cable is in the digital format. --Unlike a standard interconnect-- / that carries an analog signal.--- So,yes they have different purposes. Are we good now?
