Help with noise in ONE speaker

Hi All,

So i finally got around to trying to find the problem with "static" noise in just one speaker.  Its REALLY annoying as its not constant but every second or two it comes and goes.  So i switched the right and left speakers and still the noise in the same speaker.  I got all new interconnects and speaker wire (was doing this anyway) and still, same noise.  Turn teh volume up?  same noise...turn the volume to zero, same noise.  So i lugged a speaker up from the basement and switched it, same noise.  If i switch the ohm connection from 8 to 4 to 2, it gets quieter but still there.  The amp is a McIntosh MC152 and i really dont want to pack that up and ship it for work but my amateur investigation tells me its an amp left channel issue.  Anyone had this happen?  Any ideas?

Have you swapped the interconnect cables left for right at the input to the amp? Try that; if the problem does not move then the amp is at fault.

If the problem *moves* then the preamp is at fault (the noise is unaffected by the volume control, so its either the preamp or amp).

Its not a cable nor a source component.

You proved that the problem is with the speaker!

Hi yogiboy.  Thanks for pointing that out!  I was rambling too quick and i must not have actually done that.  But i did just do it and it did switch so my apologies but thanks for pointing that out and i guess i answered my own question!  But i will also flip flop the interconnects like atmosphere suggested in a  few...

ATMASPHERE you are the winner.  So I switched the interconnect at the amp and now it is in the right speaker.  So it looks like a preamp issue.  I wonder if its because i had the update done recently.  What in the preamp would cause this?  Would it be an output jack issue?

Ok so we are off to a good start here and looks like it does it on every input unless i engage EQ Bypass.  So there is an issue in the EQ section.  Its been driving me crazy for so long and I have been too annoyed to sit and focus but you two have helped tremendously!
