How to connect a Aqua LaScala Optologic DAC to 2 amps

Hi all,

I currently have my Aqua LaScala Optologic DAC connected to a Backert Labs  Rhumba Extreme preamp via XLR cables. The preamp is connected via XLR to my AGD mono blocks.

I would like to connect the Aqua LaScala to my Unison Research S6 integrated amp via RCA cables and be to use the DAC with both amps. Obviously not at the same time. Is this doing?

Thanks,

Angel

You need to make sure your DAC can support it. For example, my Audio Mirror Tubadour II SE could not (I asked the designer and listened, it was bad). My Benchmark DA3B (to 2 preamps) and my Musetec 005 (also to 2 preamps) had no issues.

I believe my Musetec 005 would have no issue going to 2 amps. My DAC3B has no volume control, so only to preamps.

@atorres53 -

I've never tried this with my La Scala but as it has an output selection switch to determine where the signal is going it might work. I haven't seen anything in the documentation that says specifically NOT to have multiple outputs wired at the same time so I would assume that what is not selected is bypassed.

The best way to confirm would be to send an email to Cristian at Aqua and ask ask him directly.

Here is the reply from Cristian, thank you all:

Hello Angel,

Thank you for the feedback.

About the recent units of La Scala MKII Optologic, there is no issue to use RCA and XLR at same time, since the XLR as true balanced (and NOT differential) signal with floating ground (passive transformer with HOT(+) and COLD(-) / no ground).

With the true balanced analog circuitry (fully floating) of the La Scala MkII Optologic we obtained several advantages, for example in the impact of the second harmonic (differential cancels the even harmonics), and the floating Ground (as Professional standard).

- True balanced (and NOT differential) signal with floating ground (passive transformer with HOT(+) and COLD(-) / no ground). Connection used in professional, like STUDER, to be clear.

Pin 1: Signal ground
Pin 2: Signal + (non-inverting)
Pin 3: Signal - (inverting)
Connector ground lug: chassis free
