Is Bass Non-Directional In A Two-Channel Rig?

If so, if you are using a subwoofer(s) to augment your main speakers, could you put your sub(s) to the rear of your seating position?

I can always tell where a subwoofer is in someones room. I recommend stereo subs unless they are crossed 30Hz or lower.
