Sharing some audio recordings from my listening session this past weekend
My OKTAN6 system based on my six-way horn loudspeakers, with custom field coil compression and mid-bass drivers, is sounding great with all genres of music. The music is streamed from Tidal and played back with HQPLAYER at DSD1024x48. Here are a couple of audio recordings from this past weekend’s listening session (please playback at 1080p resolution for best results):

During last night’s listening session I did some listening comparisons between my Niigata Seimitsu FN1242 Dac and my Digital Audio Denmark AX24 Dac to get some listening impressions (please play back in 1080p resolution for best sonic results): Niigata Seimitsu FN1242/FN1242A Dac - Feeling Good Digital Audio Denmark AX24 Dac - Feeling Good

Hey Carlos, They sound nice. I like AX24DAC better which sound smoother, bloom more and right forwardness. Tho their both sounds are kind of blaring horn sounds. I wish it’s smoother and expensive sound. My recording isn’t the good example but I don’t see better video right now. You and Toddalin’s systems have so much potential that it’s time to invest in good materials rather than designing the sound. Alex/Wavetouch |

I tell you, the nicest thing about designing and building your own is you can make changes to your taste, assuming that you have the knowledge and equipment to confirm your changes. To me, the female voice was still a bit too chesty. The RTA showed a peak in the 60-80 Hz range, falling off above and below that. By adding a 50 watt, 30 ohm resistor in parallel with the 18" woofer, and increasing the capacitance from 72 mfd to 102 mfd, we reduce the "Q", the crossover frequency drops from 245 to 205 Hz, the peak is removed, the level below the peak is raised a bit, the entire band is smoother, and the chestiness is gone further increasing articulation. |
