Does Anyone Know the History of the Early Sota Turntables? Are you the same individual who posted this question on AA a few days ago? I responded under the signature Low IQ. I am getting a bit more info from these replies to help fill in some missing links.
Would like to try a tube preamp after years of solid state and hybrid I don’t post often here but have sold/bought stuff several times. I have had a CJ pv1, 5, 8, and 9a. Also an ARC SP 8. I now have a Vacuum Tube Audio (tubes4hifi) line stage which uses 4 6sn7s and a tube rectifier section. I think it sounds excel...
Mcintosh mc451 mono - anybody use this new dual amplifier? I don’t post here often, but I have a set up very like you describe. The VSA vr4 jr’s have built in crossovers at 200hz and are easy to bi-amp. I use a Mac 462 for tv and movies but use it as bass amp for music. I currently have 3 tube amps that I...
Bi-amping a MC275 with my MC452. Added comment, I use a Schiit sys to balance the two amps which have different sensitivity.
Bi-amping a MC275 with my MC452. That’s exactly what I’m doing for music. The arc D 70 powers the mids and highs while the 462 powers the bass. I love the combo. Used with VSA vr 4 jr’s which have built in crossovers which makes biamping easy.
Audio Research Preamps vs. Conrad-Johnson preamps I have had, in order, a CJ pv1, a five, and a 9a. The 9 has a very fine phono preamp section. It requires a MM or homc, which is what I used. I had an ARC SP 8 for some years too. As others mentioned, it has a more analytical sound, but still ver...
Looking at a Mcintosh 275vi with upgraded gold lion tubes I have a 275 VI. I was disappointed with the sound using stock tubes. Make a long story short, I finally ended with winged C 6550s, Sylvania at7s, and telefunken ax7s. After these changes the amp sounds right with excellent, non cloudy bass, excel...
Audio Research versus McIntosh tube amps: anyone experience or compare both? Agree with emergingsoul. The D 52 transistor amp malfunctioned and blew up a pair of Proac speakers. The VT 100 has the power tubes mounted horizontally, against manufacturers advice. One blew up and took out traces on the circuit board. Then pow...
Would McIntosh Auto Transformers affect speaker sound? dman I have not heard that model and frankly, don’t want to be tempted to change again. As an answer to whether autoformers affect the sound, it doesn’t seem to be the case. All the above amps have output transformers. The overall design of the ...
Would McIntosh Auto Transformers affect speaker sound? I have had all ARC and/or Mc’s since about 1980 and feel like I’m familiar with the sound of the two manufacturers. Going through the list: ARC D 52, VT 100 II, D 70 II . D 52 was dynamic, but smeared the highs with no imaging. Failed and blew up...
Help me find a suitable speaker cable for my all McIntosh system I use mogami from wbc and really like them. Price is reasonable too.
Phono preamp, all suggestions welcome The Sota Pyxi is superb, dynamic and clear, 65db gain for lomc. $300. Used with a VTA line stage it outclassed a CJ PV 9a which I loved for years.
I want to give away my Audio Research D-52 This is my first post here, but go often to the asylum and Audiokarma. There is a thread in AudioAsylum on the D52B started August 15, 2018. It showed the amp rebuilt using Hypex UcD modules with SMPS power supply to replace mysterious and hard to... |
