Best Options For A Tubed Preamp - $2500 Or Less, Preferably Used To Maximize Value Hi - I am currently selling 2 preamps on Audiogon, a Sonic Frontiers SFL-2 2 chassis preamp that was professionally upgraded by the SF designer, Chris Johnson @ Parts Connexion in Canada. This is a class A preamp and will be vastly superior to any...
A previous discussion included a statement about crossover components. I have upgraded my Magneplanar MG20 speakers with new caps from Janzen (silver/polypropylene) and Audyne (Copper foil). The inductors were replaced with Dueland 14 Ga flat copper air core design. This was done in steps with the caps first followed...
Sweet Sounding DAC I am extremely happy with my PS Audio Directstream 2 DAC. I found the imaging is superb with sonic images that take me to the original performance of the musicians. It is very detailed without any harshness or grain in the presentation, in additio...

Sonic frontiers I am using the Sonic Frontiers SFL-2 preamp and the Sonic Frontiers Power 2 amp to this day. Both have been upgraded by Parts Connection with wonderful results. I had the preamp upgraded again with Mundorf Silver Gold Oil film caps and Duelund sil...
Speaker Bullet Filters I use the Bybee internal speaker bullet products in my Magneplanar MG20's, 2 power cables, and inside a power distributor that I built. To me they do a great deal of improvement in the reproduction of the atmosphere of a recording and in making th...
Duelund/Mundorf Ultra Loudspeaker Purifiers Are purifiers beneficial on Magneplanar speakers, and has anyone tried this on MG20's? I have rebuilt/replaced the stock internal crossover components with Janzen silver and Audine copperfoil capacitors with Dueland 14 Ga air core copper foil indu...
My New Magnepan 1.7i's sound dull and lifeless on the top end...why? All Magnepan speakers require a lively back wall to generate the proper sound at the listening position. If the back wall is too damped, it will muffle the high frequencies. Remove any damping panels, foam, etc from behind the speakers and listen....
Will this amp trick work for increasing bass performance? I also have a large room, and my solution was to triamp with an SS amplifier for the 2 subs (LP @ 48hz 24db/oct) Magneplanar MG 20 bass panels on another SS amp (LP @ 220 Hz 6db/oct, no HP filter), and a third amp (Tube) serving the Midrange/tweet...
Is Magnepan is coming out with it's own amplifier I have used the Bryston 10b and 10b Sub for years and had great success with them. Two years ago I switched to a pair of the Pass Labs XVR-1 electronic crossovers, which are in another league all together. The Pass Labs offer extreme setup flexibil...
Why HiFi manufacturers don't make active crossovers anymore? I have used active electronic crossovers for the last 30 years on my Magneplanars, first on my MG2's and later on my 3's, and now on my MG20.1's. I used the Bryston 10b and 10b sub to drive my system in the triamped mode for the last several years...
Puzzled about reasons why there seems to be no shortage of used planner speakers I have owned Maggies for the last 38 years, and since buying a set of MG20.1's in 1998, I wouldn't change! Well, there are the MG30.7's. If only..... |
