AirPlay more reliable with iPhone than iPad?

I stream Tidal to my Hegel 160 amp as the Hegel has AirPlay built in.  I had been using the Tidal app on my iPad, but had frequently lost the AirPlay signal when changing tracks.  It would either just stop playing the track or the AirPlay would stop and play the track on my iPad speakers.  Needless to say it was very annoying.  

So I switched to Tidal on my iPhone and all appears to be working well.  I have no idea why there is a difference.  Does anyone have an idea?  Might there be a setting that is different on the two devices that I am not aware of? 

I am am extremely pleased with the sound quality of the a Tidal - Hegal - Linn Majik 140 combination.
