Go to the Magnepan website and read section 11 of the 20.1 manual. That sections gives the recommended slope and frequencies for crossover that will give the BEST results.
Amp advice for Magnepan 20.1 user about to go active
Hi
I've been an avid Magnepan customer for years and have had 1.6 and 1.7 and now 20.1 as of yesterday.
My current power amp is a Plinius sa100 MK3, 180w into 4 ohms.
I intend to use a Behringer DCX digital dsp/ crossover with the maggies, and the manual states LF crossover should be set to 106hz.
I would like to keep my Plinius as it has v high current delivery and is sweet class A sounding.
Therefore my question is, for below 106hz what would be recommend? I was thinking a good class D amp with 1000w into 4 ohms. I was even considering a Crown or Behringer pa amp.
Wouldn't it be overkill to buy another expensive amp just for bass duties?? Would I really hear the difference?
Any advice/ suggestions appreciated.
