I own Audioquest (AQ) power cables in my system. I’m using a Thunder for my Niagara 3000 and (2) more for my mono block amps, and (2) Blizzards for my preamp and DAC. I haven’t swapped out the power cord from the wall to the Niagara 3000 to confirm any change in sound quality. AQ advised me to choose the best AQ power cable to connect from the wall to the Niagara 3000 since I didn’t want to spend money on Thunder cables for everything in the chain. They recommended I feed the conditioner the cleanest current with the best cable I was willing to purchase, then the rest of the gear could use equal or lowered tiered power cables in the AQ line. I definitely hear the improvements with the Thunder connected to my amps, which are plugged directly into the wall. IMO, the Thunder is the sweet spot in the AQ power cable line.
AQ Blizzard or Thunder?
- I recently added an AudioQuest Niagara 1200 line conditioner at the front of my headphone system. Presently I’m using an AQ Blizzard power cable for the 1200. Would stepping up to an AQ Thunder power cable for the Niagara make any difference at all in the SQ(sound quality) of my listening chain? Thanks

Puritan uses cheap brass outlets and inner outlet rings Thst is why it is a bit bright on you tube they show the inner ring upgrade to Furutech copper gold ,3 x better conductor literally ,my friend did Thst upgrade and trashed the hospital Hubble type brass outlets for gold over copper for about $500 in total lA Substantial Audible improvement I called Puritan out on it and asked why not a SE upgrade on the 156 they said not necessary . Thsts why I would never own one ,AQ has Gold Berrylium Copper outlets ,quality does matter !! |
Thanks @adasdad for sharing your experience with the Thunder versus the Blizzard power cable. What improvements did you notice in your sound quality when switching to the Thunder power cable? |
@calvinandhobbes, you’re welcome sir. First just look at the difference in the two cables construction. I’ve always felt that your best power cable should the one that goes into its own isolated wall socket. If you don’t have the cleanest electricity flowing into your mains then everything from there to either your speakers or headphones becomes superfluous. |
