Interesting question to which the obvious answer would be "no". But sometimes the obvious answer is not quite correct. I think you still want to align the cantilever/motor assembly with the LP groove, but how to do that with a mono signal? There's the rub. I would say just assume that the cartridge works are aligned with its body, and align the body/cantilever so it's at 90 degrees wrt the groove. This is pure guess on my part.
