I own the big brother NAD 588 turntable & it's shockingly good. Totally quiet, solid. I have Ortofon 2M Blue on mine.
Clearaudio Maestro Ebony V2 - a happy addition
Hey everyone,
So, for a couple of years I have been very happy with my Hana SH MC cartridge on first my VPI HW 19 Mark 4 turntable and now, after I've downgraded for space sake, on a perfectly fine NAD 558 turntable. And then a few weeks ago I decided to try something new -in this case, an MM cartridge, specifically the Clear audio maestro Ebony V2. I've never used an MM cartridge before and, wow! What a wonderful addition to my admittedly small cartridge repertoire.
I I don't like comparing it to because there's such different creatures, but with a clear audio I noticed a much wider soundstage without sacrificing depth and the pain point imagery I love in my own sonic taste. In Italy, retail the clear audio costs twice as much, but both these cartridges perform so well at what they do. The Hana with its imagery and spatial location of instruments, and the clear audio with it's lush broad soundstage. I'm not in the market for anything else at the moment, but I would love to find a culture that can do both. Or maybe not. Maybe I'll just adjust the cartridge based on what recording I'm playing.
That's one of the things I love about analog reproduction. The ability to change the sound to fit one's style and mood and preference at a moment's notice.
