Discuss The Viv Lab Rigid Arm

I am trying to do my due diligence about this arm. I am just having a hard time getting my head around this idea of zero overhang and no offset. Does this arm really work the way it is reported to do?

I have the Viv Labs Rigid Float 9", it wiped the floor against a Kuzma 4point, Kuzma 313ref, SME V and SME V12.

So to all the naysayers don't spout off about something you have never heard.

My goodness me, this thread has grown arms and legs.

As you know I have a 9" Viv Labs, the only people that can comment with any authority is those people that have heard one, once heard you can draw your own conclusions.

For information the place I bought mine from is the designer and manufacturer of Living Voice speakers and I know that Kevin Scott is highly regarded within the industry and is good friends with Frank Kuzma. I know for a fact that he has tried numerous arms, included some of the arms lorded by others in this thread and decided against them for no other reason than how they performed. What I am certain of there is no way he would promote or sell a product that he did not believe in.

All I can say is listen for yourself and then you can judge and have an informed opinion. If you hear one and like what you hear then great, if you don't like it then that's great as well.

There is an old saying 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating'.

@pindac has hit the nail on the head surely the point is the enjoyment of music.

I don't know about anyone else but when I buy a new piece of equipment I don't give a stuff about the theories, the equations, the technical specifications, the measured performance etc, all I am interested in is does it engage me in the music more that the piece of equipment it is replacing, whilst still fulfilling the usual hifi criteria. If it ticks these boxes then funds permitting I buy it.

This is exactly what the Viv Labs did and why I bought it over a Kuzma 4point, Kuzma 313ref.

So I say to @rauliruegas and @mijostyn if you get the opportunity please have an objective listen to a Viv Labs and put all the theories, equations etc to one side. If it doesn't float your boat then fine.

Please do not try to say those people who have bought a Viv Labs and are enjoying it have been taken advantage of and that the retailer's are purveyors of snake oil, as that is just patronising and derogatory, which I would have hoped was beneath you, but obviously not.

@rauliruegas  sorry but I am not interested in nor do I want to understand all the theories. All that interests me is the music and how it sounds to my ears, and to me I enjoy what the Viv Labs brings to my system.

@mijostyn no buyer's remorse here. The above 2 contributors in their latest posts have hit the nail on the head. When you said the listening with your ears thing as picked up on by dogberry, I read it with incredulity. The only thing most fortunate people have to listen with is their ears, so I'll stick with that and just let the music play.

@mijostyn the point here is, it is not for you to judge or pass comment on what should sound good to one individual as compared to another, everyone has their own preferences and tastes and let us be thankful for individuality.

Furthermore if the human ear cannot hear it, then who gives a stuff what they are missing as they will never know, so I am very happy to remain blissfully ignorant.

You are trying to tell people what is right and wrong in the audio world, a road from which you will not deviate and nor should others, in accordance with your own ideals, 'The Handmaid Tale' of audio springs to mind.

In my audio world there is no right and wrong just what the individual prefers.

@lewm somebody has been doing some homework 😃

@mijostyn talking of jaw dropping, my jaw drops everyone I read one of your posts in this thread.

@gzm I appreciate you like the flexibility of the Viv being free standing, what I found is that by securing it to the surface where it is mounted with a couple of pieces of double sided sticky tape wrought benefits. I suppose you could also use very very thin slithers of blue tack. Worth a try if you haven't already.

@kennyc you still haven't scratched the itch with the Viv yet.

@racedoc fantastic, someone who has actually done the same as me and auditioned the Viv against other arms and therefore can speak with 1st hand experience and not theory. I applaud you sir.

Naysayers take a leaf out of this book and go listen.

@rauliruegas I note you said I have a closed mind and am stupid. I am the very antithesis of a closed mind, that is why I am prepared to try things that break the normal convention, which appears to be the very opposite of yourself and @mijostyn, who are stuck in the world of dogma, theory etc. And as for being stupid, anybody that knows me would never call me that.

When it comes to closed minds I think you need to take a long hard look in the mirror.

As I said in an earlier post you and @mijostyn are 'The Handmaid's Tale ' of the audio world.

@rauliruegas these are your words.

'The subjectivist, at least gentlemans as alan, are " closed mind " and almost always are entitled to that " stupid "
