How different is the AR 110 Ref and Vt100 MKlll

I suspect it is an inane question, but just wondering. I would like to get a tube amp, but with kids, I need something that doesn't have the tubes on display. I realize one is about 10 years older than the other, how would those experienced with both, compare the two?
