Some very interesting bass and cello playing on this McCoy Tyner album.
Actually, Tyner had 3 brilliant recording sessions 1970 - 73 that I would also describe as challenging yet accessible.
Here is the other two

On January 20, 1949, at the age of 18, Sonny Rollins made his recording debut. He played tenor sax in a 9 piece group backing vocalist Babs Gonzales. The horn arrangements by trombonist JJ Johnson, also a member of "Babs' band" Sonny's first recorded solo starts at 1:17 here; Babs had signed a recording contract with Capitol Records hence the title "Capitolizing" |
@stuartk and all, I’m wanting to thank you again for suggesting the Penguin Jazz Recordings book. A day hasn’t gone by where I haven’t found another artist that puts a smile on my face. As you can see, I’m up to the F’s , so I have many more great recordings to ahead of me. I’m sure this won’t be the last time I say thank! |
