+1, on the cable. If the problem doesn’t manifest, with any source but Phono; it’s not the power supply. Try cleaning the selector switch, with a good contact spray. There are a number of caps in the phono section, that could cause an issue, given the piece’s age. Has the receiver ever had an overhaul (especially: electrolytic replacement), in the past couple decades?
Kenwood KR9600 receiver
I have a problem with my Kenwood KR 9600 receiver. The volume “surges” or gets intermittently loud when I am playing music through the phono inputs. It does not happen in tuner mode. Is this a capacitor or power supply issue? I hope someone might be able to steer me in the right direction before I start trial and error replacement of components.
