Now that "Black Gates" are no longer available,

What are the best choices for upgrading electrolytic capacitors?

Black gate lytics are hype. Would you like to buy my pair of 100+100 500v? I use VALAB 47uF film caps. No more lytics after regulator. For cathode caps I use nichicon KZ.
I've had good luck with the Panasonic TS series from Digi-key. I have used them on two different projects and I have been very happy with them. Here is a link. I usually get the ones with the lowest ESR.

Mechans they stop production a couple of years ago I believe. Not a big enough market.

Good luck
There's still plenty of options, Jensen, Mundorf, Nichicon FG and Nichicon KZ. I also found BG over rated.
Just want to add to Face's post:
You want the tube cap series from Mundorf, not M-lytics.
