Plinius A-150

I’m narrowing down my search for a new amplifier to the Plinius A-150 in mono which should be an huge improvement based on my current Audio Research Ref 150SE.    I love the sweet but neutral tube sound of the ARC 150SE but I want more tonal density and attack to flushed out in the mid-range.

There is very little press or real owners that have commented regarding Plinius amps and the only professional reviews places them closer to Gryphon but at a lower price point.  With a smaller toroidal and way less capacitance that I can only image would reduce some of the immediacy and attack/slam but I’m not a bass head so that would not bother me at all, the Plinius in full class A would be in my short list of amps.

Does anyone have the A-150 or mod'ed SA-103 that they can provide real world comments on in either stereo or mono configuration?

These Clayton mono amps are superb and a huge value here if still available.  Personally I’d take these over the Plinius if they have enough power for your needs.  Best of luck.

I don’t see how a Plinius can be better than ARC Reference SE components you already own.

Stereo5 Plinius are excellent amps with the right application they are hard to beat . Audio Research amps are also amazing on the right application.

@stereo5 The ARC 150SE is a very good amp.  I originally had the 75 which was the best amp that I had owned but lacked in authority and dynamics.  The 150SE provides more authority and dynamics than the 75 but it's not the end all of amplification.

It lacks the tonal richness in the mids that a more powerful amp can display.  Bass is okay but lacking in comparison.  My wife and I also listen to music alot, which has add 500 hours to my tubes in the last 6 months.  So, while the 150SE is a very good amp, my "wants" for a denser tonality with not having to worry about replacing tubes is enough to peak my interest in moving to Plinius A-150 and possibly a Gryphon Essence in stereo.  I personally believe the that the A-150 in mono may beat the amazing Essence in stereo for what I value at half the price.

Seeking real world owners of this amp seems to be the challenge.

OP I have the Plinius SA 100 it’s sounds tube like.I used for my eggleston Andra , KLh model 9, Borensen x1 monitors with good results.I don’t have experience with A150.

@jayctoy What was your previous amp prior to the SA100?  What was the improvements that the SA100 brought to your system?

How would you describe the upper and mid range that the SA100 displays in your system?

OP this is my first high end amp. But I do own tube amps like ViVa and Art audio for my efficient speakers. The SA 100 has a detail character but balance, very fast, bass is very good too.
