Pro-Ject Pre Box DS2 Digital Preamp/DAC or Bryston BD-A2 ?

Sold my Cary 306 in a moment of financial distress, looking for a DAC for under $1K. I’d like to know if the sonic performance of these two are comparable. Will a newer $600 DAC  sound as good as a $2400 DAC from 2012 ?
