RB300 anti-skating problem never quite ?

I suggest you buy a test record. It will have a blank spot with no grooves. When you have the antiskating adjusted so that the arm remains staitonary without moving in or out, your antiskating is properly adjusted. The bias slider adjustment should be set to the same number as the tracking force-ie 1g=1 on the bias slider.

Perhaps you are thinking of the VTF force spring where you turn it to the max in order to turn it off?

I thought on the RB300 if you set the anti skate to max it actually turned it off completely yet, no one has mentioned this yet.

Actually, by removing the anti-skate device from the Rega arm, you are eliminating anti-skating force from the arm entirely. Please do not confuse "anti-skating force" with "skating force". The skating force is created by the offset of the headshell coupled with the drag of the stylus in the groove. Anti-skating force in the Rega arm is created by a sliding magnet which pulls the headshell in the opposite direction of the skating force.

This might minimise the anti-skating force but will not eliminate it entirely as Klaus's paper shows.Tangential arms like the Rega will generate some force that linear-tracking arms will not.

You could try removing the anti-skate device. There is a screw in the bottom which goes up through the arm stand. It holds a plate on the arm bottom which can be pulled off and the anti-skate slider can be removed. It is just a piece of plastic with a magnet on the end. Removing the magnet/slider will eliminate all anti-skate force.

This is true only for linear tracking arms, for pivoted arms this simply not correct. As long as the line connecting the stylus tip to the arm pivot is not tangential to the groove at the contact point, which is always the case for pivoted arms, a skating force is generated. For that very reason tangential pivoted arms like the Garrard Zero and the Thales still have anti-skating mechanisms." Klaus Rampellman.Obviously Rega thinks the same.

I'm not sure I understand what you are saying, but assume that your observations are made based on the settings and the movement of the arm without the stylus being set in the groove. Is that correct?

If so, consider that anti-skating works in conjunction with the stylus tracking force. The greater the tracking force the greater the anti-skating force should be.
