'Record Out' does not work when using a balanced input

I am stumped!  I have an Aurender music server which also streams.  I wanted to record a song or two from Qobuz to tape so I could play it back later for personal use.

The 'Record Out' works great going to my Teac 3340S reel-to-reel when the inputs are phono or DVD.  There is no signal on my 'Record Out' when the input on my C48 is a balanced input.

Here is what my chain looks like: Aurender N100 USB to Matrix DC-to-DC converter.  Comes out of my Matrix as I2S.  I2S from the matrix to I2S input on my PS Audio DirectStream DAC.  Balanced output on DirectStream to balanced input on C48.

From a listening perspective this works fine.  If I try to record anything, there is no signal on 'Record Out' so I am unable to record.

Any other analog input into the C48 works fine.  I get a good signal out of the C48 and am able to record anything like CD, phone, etc.

Does anyone have any ideas how to get a balanced input to my C48 to also give me a signal on 'Record Out'? TIA

@r042wal

What is the ’C48’?

I suspect the answer is quite simple. I’ll know better when the C48 is identified.

McIntosh C48 Preamp I presume

A quick glance at the manual: pgs 9, 13, 15 involves complicated options:

1st assigning an unused high level rca input name (i.e. CD2, or SRVR) to the Balanced Input 1 for instance (then plug your direct stream into the C48's bal 1 inputs. When you select CD2 or SRVR (whichever you re-assigned) as the source, it should take whatever in coming in your Bal 1 inputs (in lieu of the CD2 rca in).

PRESUMABLY, whatever you are listening to this way should go out the REC out jacks, you still need to have the name you reassigned as your selected source.

PASS THRU, pgs 9 and 15 describe a method of activating bal 2 inputs as Pass Thru, then you might have a way of using the Rec out or Bal Out to the recorder

Thanks for your reply @elliottbnewcombjr.  My McIntosh C48 preamp has outputs on RCA #1 and RCA #2.  It also has balanced outputs (XLR) that go to my McIntosh power amp.

I recall when I set the C48 up, it said you could not use a balanced output (XLR) with and unbalanced output (RCA)

I have mapped my Aurender music server/streamer to to the ’Server’ function and ’Server’ points to XLR out instead of RCA #1 output.
