RIP: Doc Watson

Very sad news. Saw him once with his son Merle many years ago. What a guitar picker! He will be missed!

I haved loved "Tennesse Stud", from 'Will The Circle Be Unbroken', ever since that seminal album from the seventies. Great musician, Doc will be sorely missed. Sad day indeed.
I am glad I got to see him play with Tony Trischka in a neat old theatre in Philly last year. Saw him many times at Merlefest. Highlights were seeing him play free at the July 4 Firefly Festival in Foscoe NC in the mid 90s and at the Love Auditorium at Davidson College in the 80s. He was a kind gentle biblical soul who graced us all with his mellifluous voice and scintillating flat picking. God bless, Doc.
My first country recording I purchased(25+ years ago) was Down South by Doc and Merle Watson, due to a very positive review. Doc Watson proved too a snobby young audiophile that country music could be intelligent, skillful and kickass!
A true legend and one of my all time favorites! They don't mak'em like
that anymore.

Nobody made folk music sound better than doc watson imho. It just
seemed to come naturally and flow, a rare thing indeed.

Nice story from Ry Cooder in the NY Times about seeing Doc Watson for the first time.
