The short answer I would suggest is yes. The DAC on the laptop is really not good. If you're looking for high quality audio production you'll need an external DAC. I would recommend the Schitt Modi 3 for $99. The audio quest dragonfly is an option too but I think you'll get more out of the schitt.
should I bother putting a DAC inbetween MacBook Pro and AudioEngine A5+??
Because of Covid Chaos I had to hit the road for a paycheck. Gonna be in a hotel room for 5 months. With just Youtube thru my MacBook for music. Just bought a pair of AudioEngine A5+. Plugging in thru headphone jack.
1) Should I bother getting a DAC?
2) If so, which one?
3) Output-wise, the MacBook just has headphone and (2) Thunderbolt 3 ports. How to best connect the DAC you suggest to MacBook?
By the way, I stick with Youtube because I'm most interested in live performances. Like this asskicker: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnmsKamHyvs
Thanks in advance for any mercy you can spare.
