Speaker to stand connection: Arcici with B&W 801 series 2
I have been wanting stands for my B&W 801 S2 speakers, and recently won a nice pair of Arcici's on ebay. They are well constructed and in good shape.
My speakers currently are on casters, which obviously will come off. The PO of the stands used spikes between the speakers and the stands (there is some digging/scarring where the spikes contacted the stands). Where the stands meet the ground there are (3) 3/8-16 threaded inserts on each.
I contacted Herbies Audio Labs, and they suggested Big Fat Dots between the speaker and the stands, with Threaded Stud Gliders under the stands. OK. The gliders will help when trying to move these 150# beasts around my vinyl plank flooring.
My question has to do with this speaker to stand interface. The speakers have a hollow section (concave) that allow the casters to be recessed and *almost* hidden. it is maybe 1/5" deep. When the casters are removed there will be an outer "perimeter" (skirt) of wood which will support the load.
Should I put the BFDs under the skirt (minimal contact area), or should I add some wood "pedestals" to the bottom of the speakers where the casters were so that the BFDs are fully supported?
The only person I know with Arcici stands simply sits the speaker on the stand and doesn't have any feet underneath (his floor is carpet).
My inkling is to build four wood pedestals that will attach to the stand, topped with the BFDs.
Thanks in advance.
