Stax Gamma Headphones...Worth Repairing?

I bought these about 20 years ago and, shortly thereafter, some wonderful person cranked my Denon amp full tilt into them and subsequently they were distorted at anything more than very low volume. Being pretty much disgusted beyond common sense, I put the phones and accompanying black box into a drawer and tried to forget about the incident until I ran across them again recently while doing some Spring cleaning. Has anyone had experience with having electrostats like this repaired?...Does this sound like a good candidate for fixing back to original specs or should I forget about it?
