Streaming Tidal from an Apple tv 4k box?

I noticed Tidal was available for streaming from an apple tv 4k box. anyone use this feature? do the hi-rez formats get sent over the HDMI? I do know the tv will pass the digital signal on to the digital out just not sure if it keeps the format that's sent to it or processes it in anyway.  I'm looking to add a simplified version of the streaming service for background music mostly.
