To amp or not to amp?

I am currently running a 7.1 surround sound system in my home theater with a Denon AVR 3802.It has been brought to my attention that if I purchase an amp and use my Denon as a pre amp I will greatly improve the sound.I have a couple of questions, first do I need to get a amp that has 7 channel outputs or would just buying a 2 channel amp help me also? There is a big difference in price as you know and I am on a bugdet of about 800.00 dollars. Can anyone suggest what type of amp I should be looking for and what brand would be in this price range?I was looking at both 2 channel and 7 channel amps made by B&K but they are very pricey so I'm looking for an alternative. Thanks in advance

Hello, Jondon.
Adding a 2 channle amp to a receiver is a good way to start.

As fars as amps, you'll get 1001 suggestions, here's a thread with some:

My advice would be to look at Parasound amps. Especially on audiogon in that price range. I think you might find what you are looking for. If you buy a two channel amp now, only two of the channels will be improved. If your budget is tight, you can always add more later. I haven't seen too many seven channel amps available, that does not mean they are not out there somewhere though.
Jondon,
If you are talking strictly home theater, chances are what you have is fine. You didn't list your gear, which makes suggestions difficult, if not SWAGs.

If you listen to 2 channel through this, and you have speakers that can reproduce sounds accurately, (not THX certified speakers) then I would suggest a McCormick DNA amp. I think the -1 sells for about $850 preowned. A tough amp to beat musically for $850!
